Ok guys, most of you will have been redirected here from the old hAndroid wiki.

I’m sorry to report my Hermes dead (explained here). This puts the hAndroid project in a tight spot.

After talking to a disappointed hAndroid hopeful, I realised it would be foolish and irresponsible just to let this die due to an accident involving a wall…

I also had a look at the hAndroid usage statistics yesterday and realised that over the last 14 days, 5400 people accessed the hAndroid wiki. This pushed my thinking even further. So heres the deal.

If we can find people to fill the following positions in the project…

- Wiki master (x1)
- Document writers (1/2)
- Experienced linux programmers/porters (3-5)
- Project manager (with experience of a similar role) (x1)
- Testers (3 to 10 – not necessarily required)

…. I will…

- Re-open the wiki.
- Host forum/mailing list and other internal communications stuffs.
- Host all files etc.
- Help manage if required.
- Generally help out as much as I can, where necessary (without a device)

I know the team list looks large, but with those people I’m fairly confident we can make hAndroid succeed.

To offer your assistance, please just write a comment here and leave an email address and the position you wish to fill.

Don’t feel you have to be of a great standard to take part, as long as you have a brain and some sticking power I’m sure you’d be a valuable asset to the team.

One last point I’d like to make is that if you do apply, you really must be willing to help (as 10 testers that ‘can’t be bothered’ is utterly useless, the team may as well have none).

You heard it kids, the new version of fedora is finally out after a long wait!

It looks to be pretty good but i’m not exactly a massive fan of Fedora so it won’t take much to make me think it’s a nice release .

I’ll be reviewing it as soon as I possibly can but at the moment, I’m a busy person.

See you the other side of the install (18 hours remaining on the download apparently :s – overloaded file servers = fun )

Hooray for handroid!

I got the kernel booting today, an exciting moment (made especially easy by the previous linux porters to Hermes.)

Now for the hard work.

Ok, firstly abit of news;

Android has, quite simply, the best bug ever.

Every key stroke you ever press on the machine after boot up is interpretted on an invisible console as super user.

I need not say any more.

In other news (more blog related), the reason I haven’t posted for awhile is because my life outside of computing has become extremely busy. So busy I haven’t had time to write on a wall nobody will ever read. Shame. Well i’m back mr Wall, and I have plans.

Too much change.

The problem with KDE 4 is that it is simply too different, but yet it doesn’t really do anything new that you couldn’t do with 3.5.x and superkaramba. This makes KDE 4 almost useless in that it’s a unvelopment; KDE has devolved into something that looks pretty but is entirely useless. It’s abit like Windows Aero in that it takes up processing power, slows down the user but looks pretty.

When I look at Gnome development however, I don’t see vast improvement, I don’t see new interesting features but I do see stability and ease/speed of use. This, if you ask me is a far better way of working. It also begs the question; are we close to the perfect UI?

That may sound hidiously sensationalist but actually, the ‘windows like’ UI that is now in use by almost every OS in the world has been chosen for a reason hasn’t it…

The filesystem that has housed so many sources of Open Source projects, countless hours of work and whatever else we like to stick on our hard drives finally got it’s new version de-dev’d!

The Ext4Dev modules have been in the kernel awhile but have only just been changed to flat ‘ext4′. Apparently the stable version will be ready and merged into 2.6.29.

Hoorays for progress!

Features include…

• Absolutely huge capacity, one ‘exabyte’ (yes you guessed it – it’s 1024 petabytes) worth of data in a single volume.
• Quicker disk checking.
• No more 32,000 sub-folder limit hooray!

So hey… not that fantasticly exciting I know, but disc checking speed increase is always a welcome addition isn’t it.

Brings back memories of the non-CopyOnWrite days of ext2 doesn’t it?
