Microblogger allows you to easily create a microblog sidebar with quick updates of your thoughts and actions, but it also comes with a useful blog activity tracker so your readers can keep up to date with the rest of your community! The plugin is highly customizable, allowing you to have complete control over the way your bloggings are shown to your audience.

The plugin is also accompanied by a mobile UI that will allow you to write microblogs and see recent activity on any wap enabled mobile phone – for the cost of around 3kb data transfer!

Also, the modular design of the plugin opens the door for third party additions to the plugin.

Development is still very much on going, so frequent updates are to be expected!

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated! So please drop me a line on the comments area of the microblog page on my blog, or at samuel.ecwilliams [at] googlemail [dot com]

Key features:

  • The first wordpress microblog that requires no external services! – Just plug and play away!
  • A recent activity tracker for your blog – from comments to posts.
  • Mobile microblogging UI for any wap enabled phone.
  • Full control over the layout and design of your microblog.
  • You steer the boat! If you have any feature requests or bugs, I’m more than happy to implement/fix them for you!

Download the latest version here and don’t forget to drop us a comment if you like/dislike it!

Thanks alot,

Sam

  2. Firstly I want to tell you have done nice work with this plugin :)

But for some reason it is not working form me :( I tested it on both PW 2.7.1 & 2.8RC1 but it was the same…when I tried to click “Microbolog!” it got me the error “Page wasn’t found” It tried to access …/wp-admin/microblog/modules/admin_blog.php but…I installed the plugin through the admin. What could be a problem? Thank You in advance.

  3. Thank you very much for the words of praise both, I’m pleased you like the plugin. However, I am even more thankful to Johnny for the bug report – I’m working on a fix right this second.

The strange thing is that I remember experiencing a similar problem myself but it somehow ‘disappeared’ before I had chance to fix it – very strange indeed. Could you tell me how long after the installation you tried the ‘Microblog’ button? Also, does the same thing happen now?

I’m going to try and ship out an update today, so please bare with me :)

  4. I’ve tried it right now and it is still there :P

Just for the information the OS of my server is Linux(Apache); I have PHP 5.2.9 (Safe Mode:OFF); mySQL 5.0.77

I would also appreciate if you can add permalinks to the “activities” like when I click on “A comment was made.” it takes me right away to that comment ;)

  5. Thanks alot for the feedback, as for permalinks that is sadly something that might take a while as it needs a bit of database restructuring but it is most definitely on the ‘to do’ list and as soon as I get time, I’ll be on to it :)

As for the bug, I think I’ve found the solution but I could really do with you testing it just to check (as I’m still having trouble reliably recreating the error).

Please download the version of the plugin that is available on *this* site (not the word press plugin repo) and overwrite your copy of the old plugin, if it works for you i’ll add afew little things tweaks and upload it as beta-2.

Thanks for your help and look forward to hearing from you soon!

  6. OK, I went ahead and uploaded BETA2, if you could test that for me to check if it works for you now Johnny that would be great :) .

Also, new feature! A little bar at the top of the admin pages (can be turned off don’t worry) that allows you write microblogs very quickly :) – tell me what you think!

Thanks again for the bug report help,
    Sam

  7. Thank you for a prompt respond but…unfortunately it looks even worse :(
When I reactivated the plugin after the upgrade I got this error right away in my administration “Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in …/wp-content/plugins/microblogger/modules/microadminblog.php on line 11″
and when I tried to click on “Microbolog!” it displayed this:”Cannot load microblog/modules/admin_blog.php.”

The “little bar” is great idea…I think it would be great if I can (optionaly) add some kind of widget do my dashboard ;)

You can contact me on the email provided with this comment to get quicker response.

  8. I think the problem is that it refers to “microblog/modules/” but the installer creates “microblogger/modules/”.

A setting for font-color would be real nice too btw ;)

  9. Thankyou very much Tam – that went half the way to solving it!

The bug is now well and truely squashed and everything seems to be working ok.

Also, in BETA3 – which is out now, I added a font setting for you :D

Please be sure to post anymore feedback you feel might be useful,

  13. Just tested this on one of my blogs. Looks really good. Here are a few suggestions:

Ability for readers to subscribe to microblogs
possible integration with site RSS feed
Ability for readers to post comments to microblogs

  14. Hi Sam, I’d like to report a possible bug. I use Version 1.0-RC3 with WP2.8.4, and I notice that microblogs seems to affect image upload, in particular, image from URL (this feature doesn’t work anymore). But it’s beautiful work, thanks!

  17. Hi Sam, I’ve been using your plugin for a week now – from my mobile and from my desktop. Very nice work! I got a couple of suggestions though:

    - the activitiy feed is pretty useless without direct links to the activities (comments etc.); Lifestream does that in a quite neat way.

    - in the backend, the fields the number of entries for act. and microblogs are switched (at least when you change the order which I did)

    - variables would be great – eg, showing different versions of the microblog on different sidebars.

Thanx for the great work! Really nice idea, hope you keep on developping this.

    ritchie

  18. @Kofj: Please, please read the instructions before posting… twice.

@Ritchie: Thanks! Perma’s have been on the agenda for awhile now and I’ll look into the other issues you mentioned before the next release.

    Cheers,

  20. [...] [...]
