Writing an LSharp.net IDE

2009-07-26

Recently I found an interesting little programming language called LSharp.net.

It is effectively a language by which the user can script in LISP and call functions to the .NET framework. It is indeed an interesting experiment and in a little while it cvould perhaps become usable.

The issue I found with coding for L#.net was the unfortunate lack of an IDE…. so I made one (see below)

As can be seen, the IDE is currently only able to load, save and run programs. However, i’m actively working on this so quick advancements are to be expected.

For a 1.0-BETA release this is the sort of feature list I am hoping for…

  • Load, edit, save and run L#.net programs.
  • Code colouring.
  • Font settings.
  • Multiple files open (projects?)

It shouldn’t take too long, so expect an update within the next few days.

Microblogger is out!

2009-06-07

You read the title! After about 20 hours developing, tweaking, redeveloping and the likes, it’s actually done!

The first release (1.0-BETA) has been out and about for around 4 hours now and the response has been very positive thus far, with 1 positive comment and a fair few downloads, the future is looking good for microblogger!

Born out of my post of frustation here, I ended up writing my own wordpress microblogging plugin available here! I hope someone, if not many people people make good use of the plugin and again, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Back soon,

Micro.B frontend finished!

2009-05-31

You heard, as of effective now there is a freeze on the frontend layout of the micro.B plugin I have spent the last few days writing.

More to come about the actual plugin itself, but I just want to get everything sorted first.

Thinking 5th of June for release – so stay tuned.

Automated Society

2009-05-30

Yesterday, while walking through the car park of my local retail park, a lamp post shouted out to me to make sure I lock my car. It sparked a some what revelationary thought, jobs and activities that used to be undertaken by humans (or not at all) are now being performed in a way that benefits us. The interesting thing is here, that the response from each human is roughly the same. At what point do we become interchangable with robots? I know that sounds ridiculous, but think about it – RepRap can now replicate itself, we have AI that can change it’s own coding for the purpose of becoming more efficient, or running society?

The end of this situation is likely to have been predicted in the good old film war games from back in the day. The machines will realise the only way to win ‘life’ is not to ‘play’.

Hugely exaggerated sci-fi maybe, but ultimately not as impossible as it may be first assumed.

Blog spam..

2009-05-30

5 attempted spammings in one morning! Of course nothing got through, but that’s beside the point – people tried to!

Actually, let me revise that statement – computers tried to spam me. Botnet? The worrying thing is here, that if I had approve comments off, the site would be covered in utter trash absolutely nobody is ever going to be interested in.

I mean… there must be easier ways to get traffic right?

Oh well… no real biggy but i’d like to be able to actually block the sites from which they originate. But thats wordpress isn’t it.

Back later,

MUDDing

2009-05-25

Recently I’ve had a go at the good old MUD.

10 hours into play i’m an orc, that is ‘brain dead’ and truly ‘hideous’. Great.

But in all seriousness it’s been interesting – I’m enjoying it. ‘How so? I’s text!’ I hear you say, but think about this – it actually works better than a modern MMO, just as a book is better than a slightly bad quality 3D animation.

I highly recommend to anyone that is interested to check out http://www.icesus.org (my favourite MUD – no product placement here :) ).

More soon, I promise.

My problem with blogging

2009-04-25

The problem with blogging (in my opinion) is that sometime there are things you’d like to say but you feel you should wait until you have something mpore substanital to write. But the thing is that moment never comes. Hence my recent lack of posts, sorry about that (my none existent reader base).

I will try and post these little things anyway, and maybe try and get a micro-update section going.

Using API’s….

2009-03-04

It must be said, I’ve never used a web API before…. so the following few weeeks are going to be interesting at the minimum…. (not saying any more for now)

If anyone has any generalised tips about the use of API’s in php I think it would be helpful for everyone if you dropped them here.

Speak soon,

1GHZ smartphone??

2009-02-24

Yes it’s true, samsung (I think – don’t quote me) have decided to release a 1ghz smartphone (running wm6.1).

What a waste. It really is truely astonishing that such a small device should need such a processor. Until recently I happily ran wm6.1 on my hermes (~200mhz but I can’t remember actually, no quotes), so what would you be running requiring 5x that power?

Interestly, that 1ghz processor (ARM) is also the one that is going in the new arm netbooks… could make for an interesting netbook-pda ‘whats the difference?’ Moment.
